Hi
I was wondering if anyone has had to pay to replace their entire car lock system for an Astra? Is it a nightmare and costly?
Thanks in advance

What year is the Astra? Still under warranty? What reason for replacement, have they just become unserviceable, or have you had damage?
I ask because I last had an Astra from new on an "S" plate. Electric everything: sunroof, doorlocks and front window winders. The sunroof seized and was repaired 3 times, after which the doorlocks and winder motors packed up. I was locked in! This came after similar trouble with a "N" reg Corsa, also from new. I have never had a Vauxhall since.
Now I get the "Had a Vauxhall BlahBlah ten years and never had a problem with it" replies. Well, that was not my experience.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

If you are replacing the whole thing are you getting the existing stuff reprogrammed or are you talking ECU replacement as well?0 -
It's going to be hundreds. If this is due to theft of keys then it will be enough that you really will want to be thinking of claiming on insurance.
Vauxhall dealer should at least give you a ball park over the phone. Bound to vary by age and locking system options, so you need to be clear on that, a basic Astra going back a good few years might not even have remote central locking, so do be clear what age and model of Astra you are talking about.0 -
Nightmare - tick
Costly - tick
Given that a replacement key for a modern car could be £150-200 or more ... replacing more than that will cost!0
