Imagine my surprise to see on this webpage that the CAB actually ARE government funded....it clearly says so...(oh double dear alice holt) and just one of their sponsors are 'lowell' a debt collection, debt buying agency.....i rest my case....
Imagine my surprise when it turns that you are quoting an article six -seven years old. You must be desperate. Very desperate. And where in the extremely old article that you have scraped up does it say that CAB are funded centrally?
CABs are funded by local councils ( in general) and then have to find other forms of income for themselves to boost this.0 -
Other 'older' but still relevant...0

Okay.
That refers to CAB Scotland where SLAB funds certain work in bureaux. As I said the local bureaux will still have to find their own funding

The central Citizens Advice Service is funded by government. Local bureaux sink or swim by themselves.
In England and Wales government cuts in legal aid impacted on this provision. In the 2011 article you cited there was £26 million funding from the LSC which I am guessing was the central government money you were talking about.
This article sums it up and is talking about LSC and the cuts in funding to CABs. You'll note the dates of the article and the legislation.

A much longer and more detailed article here

I know quite well what the impact was as my partner lost her job because of it. And I know just how much losing her and her job affected our ability to help clients.0 -
So rather than use an organisation which trains its volunteers, you come and ask random strangers on an anonymous forum for advice, where you have no way of judging the accuracy of any advice received?0
