Credit Score Help

Hi Guys.
I'm currently a 20 year old student and have recently tried setting up a student bank account and getting a new phone contract. Both of these applications were turned down because I apparently have a bad credit score.
So I singed up to Experian and found my credit score was 804 which they class as fair. Is this low enough for me to be rejected from these things or is something else going on.
Also if this is low I have no idea how I've managed to get a low credit score.
Any advice/help would be great

The credit scores from all the CRAs are fictional, so ignore them all in equal measure.
Lenders only use the data on your credit files and never the scores.
The best way to build a credit history is responsible use of a credit card, clearing it in full each month.0 -
The score itself is meaningless, what's on the report is what counts.
At the age of 20 I suspect it's a lack of credit history rather than bad history. Have you had any credit before?0 -
I recently applied for a couple of "credit building" credit cards but for some reason was also rejected. As far as I am aware I should have no credit history never mind a bad one. Experian said there was a 95% chance I'd be accepted for both these cards. I feel stuck because I don't really know what to do at this point.0

I think the multiple applications wouldn't have helped, but perhaps trying to get a credit card with no history is the problem.
Are you on the electoral role?0 -
Your not stuck but maybe hold fire on the applications for credit.
What does your Equifax and Call credit files say, you can get them from Clearscore and Noddle.0
