I am thinking about getting my teenage daughter an Amazon Echo dot,but just have a couple of questions.
Once you own the Echo,do you then have to pay Amazon to link it up with Spotify,or do you just pay the monthly Spotify membership (£9.99,though currently 99p for 3 months)?
If we sign up for Spotify, can I just confirm that she will be able to listen to music through her mobile phone,Ipad and Alexa (daughter says she already listens to the free Spotify through phone and Ipad-I assume she can just add Alexa.)
I was thinking of getting the Echo dot,but would the Echo be better,in general, but especially for listeningto music.
Have just realised there is an Echo plus.Arrrghhh!Would that be better again?
Thank you for any help.

Echo plus has a bulb built in. I have the echo and the sound is more than enough for the kitchen and fills the house. I don’t know where the music comes from but so far it’s played everything I’ve asked of it and I gave up Spotify years ago. Great bit of kit, going to buy a dot for the bedroom.

For music, the Echo would be the much better choice. The Dot is too small for good sound, although it's not atrocious by any means.
Your daughter will need Spotify Premium to work with it though - not the free version. She can use radio via TuneIn, or Amazon music if you have it.0 -
Are you saying Spotify Free won't work at all on the Echo (Dot), or just won't be the best (ad free) experience?
PS - students can get Spotify Premium for £5 per month ... us "adults" are charged £10 per month.0 -

Hi can confirm the free version wont work but if you played it from the phone through bluetooth or the 3.5 jack it would .0

I have several Dots and Echo's, i wouldn't recommend the dot for playing music unless you have a bluetooth speaker to connect to.
The sound is ok on the dot, but is a bit like playing music on your mobile phone speaker.
The sound quality of the echo is really good.
The echo plus just has a built in hub to control things such as smart bulbs etc,.. so no point in spending more unless she is going to use that functionality,0 -
oh, also they are all on offer at the moment on Amazon,
£10, £20 and £30 off for the dot, echo, echo+0 -
I've actually been resonably impressed by the sound from my echo dot, it's pretty decent in a small room. And certainly much better than my phone speakers.
Not sure if others would agree but personally I think an echo dot plus a decent bluetooth\ wired speaker would potentially be a far more flexible option for her.0 -
if i was buying it for someone specifically for listening to music as the OP mentions, i'd rather pay the additional £35 for the superb sound quality rather than make do with 'being reasonably impressed' or faff around with bluetooth speakers.
That's just my opinion of course, but it's based on having Dot's, Echo's and a bluetooth speaker0
