hi all
going to buy a sound bar for my lg tv as the sound is rubbish or I might be going deaf.
don't want anything really fancy, just decent basic, up to £125 or so.
recommendations please?

Pity you didn't ask a week or two ago: the Cambridge Audio TV2 v2 was £149 from Richer Sounds. Now it's £199...
Look through the specifications for the first four in this range, making sure it has the connectivity you want...0 -
Depending on your set up, check the height of the soundbar you choose. Mine sits in front of my LG tv, and even moving it as far forwards as I can, it interferes with the tv remote signal. I had to add extra padded feet to the tv to lift it up.
FWIW, I have a Panasonic soundbar, was about £60 from Argos and does the job for me0 -
Couple of points.
Some soundbars come with a separate sub-woofer - do you want this?
Would your TV remote control the soundbar volume?
In my case, didn't want bulky sub-woofer so bought Samsung J250 @ £85 from Argos to go with Samsung TV and connected them using a digital optical cable so that switching TV on also switches soundbar on.
Not sure if TV remote controls soundbar volume as I have Sky and Sky remote switches TV on which in turn switches soundbar on but doesn't control soundbar volume so need both Sky and soundbar remote controls.
But getting Sky Q soon which may improve situation. Otherwise may have to buy a one-for-all remote.
Complicated and unfortunately you may not be able to find out if they work together before purchasing.
The J250 produces reasonable sound which is noticeably better than TV speakers.0 -
This is mine, suits my small lounge and 40" Sony Bravia:

Great improvement on TV sound (Modern TV's are thin & flat, speakers are also thin) and only £85. It's £99 from Amazon. Download the PDF and have a look. Also comes with a wall mount if you need that. One tip: buy a good Optical (TOSlink) cable and connect with that. Prevents LipSync problems.
It also pays to visit somewhere like Currys and see if you can listen to some soundbars. Then buy online.
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
