Am I entitled to receive my deposit back?

Good morning.
Could anybody advise if I am entitled to my deposit back - I'm feeling rather foolish at the moment.
I have been in talks with a venue dresser for my wedding next autumn. We recently met at the venue to discuss things and as I was reasonably happy with what they could offer, I handed over a £150 deposit in cash (I know, I know!) They said they would put everything in writing once they got back to the office and send me my reciept.
I haven't heard anything from them since despite sending a few messages. If I turn up at their address can I demand my money back? I feel they may say 'what money?' though.
Thanks for your help

They may have just been busy or receipt got lost in post or numerous other reasons until you go and see them you will not know
However if they state what money do you have any evidence of giving them any money as if they state you have not it is your word against them. So will be unlikely you will see the money again if they state that.0
