Boots Opticians, but who provided loan?

I had lasik treatment in 2001 with Boots. I took out a loan to cover this, but no longer have any details, so I can't identify the bank involved. I contacted Boots who told me they sold the Lasik business to Optical Express in 2004, and therefore have no records. Optical Express will provide the records they have, as a data protection request, but they say this does not include anything relating to the loan. I don't even know whether there was any PPI, so don't feel like spending money on retrieving my records on the off chance. What's my next step?

To give up, probably.
It doesn't matter who provided the loan. If Boots sold you PPI it is to them you send your complaint. If they sold the business AND liability for historic loans to Optical Express, you complain to them.
If no one has any record going that far back, as they shouldn't, then there's nowhere else to go.0 -
