O/S Daily Tuesday 12th December 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Still dark here, but we've had a very hard frost overnight. The sunset last night was amazing.
Dinner last night was duck in hoisin sauce, with HM egg fried rice, made a huge pan and DH wanted second helpings of the rice and then had a slice of chocolate cake, said he was really hungry - his job can mean he's outside quite a bit, so he'd probably been outside a lot and as it's so cold it uses up your energy, that's my theory anyway. I took the bland soup and was glad I did as the office was really cold, and especially at the desk I was sitting at, the girl that sat in that desk after me sat and worked in her coat all afternoon, I did manage with just my uniform and a cardigan. Tonight I'd planned chicken wrapped in bacon with mash, veg and gravy but I don't appear to have enough chicken breasts - I thought there was some in the outside freezer - I will go and have another dive in there before work this morning, if I haven't got any I'll need to make a decision of what I'm going to cook, Tuesday's is my earlier finish so I could stop off at the SM on the way home but would prefer not to spend the money when I have supplies I can use at home if I plan and get organised properly.
Work yesterday was a busy one, the systems weren't working on Friday so lots of people had tried to be in touch on Friday and were told to come back yesterday - which they did. Was busy all day, made the day pass quickly, today could be less busy.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Still cold and frosty, not sure what the temperature is but will be in the minuses again. It was -6 when I went to work yesterday.
Went to the podiatrist last night, she is barking mad but seems to know what she's doing (at least I hope so!). I have an ingrowing toe nail so that has been dealt with. Still sore but hopefully will improve, I'll have to wear trainers today.
Like you nmlc, our office was freezing cold yesterday, not helped by the front door being open for an hour in the morning for breakfast club.
Hope you're feeling less sore today karcher.
That was an epic sleep Gers!
How's the cold elona?
Go Scampi! How does Lulu like the snow Lainey?
Good to hear from you sistercas.
Hope you all have a good day, stay safe in this cold and frosty weather. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning. Sub zero again here, with an inch or two of snow.
I wrote out my Christmas cards last night, and will post this morning. I'm late with them this year, couldn't seem to get going with them, though the actual present buying is done.
Exercise class this morning, and will pop into B&* on way home for some stocking fillers for dgd. I've made a small felt stocking for her.
Quiz night tonight with friends.
Stay safe and warm.0 -
Morning all,
No defrost here and the snow has turned to ice. Only the brave are coming up and down my road.
Im supposed to be going to a funeral today but thats not going to happen. Cant see the hearse coming up my road either...but we will see. I'll try and get to the wake but im not optimistic I'll stay upright as even the snow is frozen solid.
Today I dont have to do anything but vacuum so I wont. Ive got the seed of an idea in my head. I'll think it through.
Onwards and forwards
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's very cold but still no snow thankfully. I am tired as I didn't sleep too well as I think I am fighting off the start of a cold. Poor Becky didn't get any sleep at all last night so I guess she will sleep in the car all the way back to the hospital this morning. We have had an ok weekend with her. The voices are still being intrusive and there have been several arguments with her sister but that at least is quite normal. She is coming home again on Thursday for the weekend again as the hospital are hoping she will be discharged before Christmas.
I do not have a clue what to make for dinner tonight, I guess I will have to get dressed and go to look in the shed freezer to see what we have. I made us all sausage, mash and beans last night which went down well.
I will try and get to see my friend today once Becky has left. It was her birthday on Sunday and I haven't heard from her which is very unlike her. I know she is struggling with depression and she is like me where we push people away when things are bad. I am worried about her so I would like to go and see if she is ok.
Other than that I have nothing planned. I am two thirds through the scarf I am knitting for another friend so I will crack on with that today as well. I am sure there will be some rubbish film on tv to watch to keep me company.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
Yesterday we had a combination of sleet/snow and heavy rain all day and really cold overnight temperatures so there is probably icy patches on the roads and pavements out there. I would like to go into town today but I will see what it looks like a bit later. I have to go out to the doctors for a blood test later, but thankfully that isn’t until late morning so the pavements should be ok by then.
I really need to get a load in the wm in a minute. I got my bedding washed and dried yesterday but the general washing pile has been growing for a week or so now.
Dinner will be whatever I manage to dig out of the freezer. I think probably something with mince, either a cottage pie or spaghetti Bolognese.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning all
Brrr - 5 here this morning and still no snow ! we had a very slight flurry yesterday but the ground was so wet it was never going to stick. The roads will be bad this morning as it rained all day yesterday really heavily and now the whole lot would have frozen  OH has just been out to his car which is frozen shut and the road is like an ice rink, be careful out there peeps.
77 for xmas lunch today so it will be a busy one and I doubt we will get a lunch break but the clients will have a great time which is the main thing.
Something with mince for dinner tonight might do a chill or maybe enchiladas to warm us up.
Stay safe everyone and have good days xxx0 -
Good morning all
I didn't get my presents wrapped yesterday, but they are in a heap on the landing ready to be done. Instead I tidied the spare room and put everything away that was on the bed apart from two out of the three projects that I am currently working on. Those I moved to my bedroom and then I washed the bedding off the spare bed. By the time I'd done that and had a slice of cheese on toast for lunch it was time to take the HT to the orthodontist. I am currently in discussions with the HT about a brace, The dentist wants to take some teeth out and give him a cemented on brace. That was the start of the path that led to me needing first a bridge then a partial denture so I'm not keen. Neither me or the HT think his teeth look that bad and I would prefer him not to be messed with. He also has an extremely low pain threshold which I don't think would cope with a brace being tightened. Sometimes I really dislike solo parenting!
It feels colder than yesterday morning today although it probably isn't. It was -3.5 when I took the HT to school yesterday. The wheelie bins were iced shut too. I need to go and have a rummage in the freezer and find something for our evening meal now. I'm totally lacking in inspiration....
Biggest of hugs to everyone this morning. Sometimes even people who appear cheery are putting a brave face on things rather than admit they're not feeling as good as usual so if that's you, consider yourself hugged.0 -
Good morning from a very frosty and chilly Argyll.
There’s low white cloud meeting fog meeting hard frosted fields with a lovely crescent moon still showing high above the cloud.
I’ve crawled reluctantly out from under my cosy duvet and have to face the shower, not so much the getting showered but the coming out of the cubicle back into a freezing bathroom.
The other week I came across a brand new pair of winter shoes I’d bought much earlier this year. What a godsend! Proper slip-resistant soles saved me from being worried about walking yesterday. They are just Sk*tchers but much better than my walking boots which I normally drag out in winter.
Off to work later this morning and then having a much needed haircut. After that, no idea. I’ll get a fire going before I go out, it probably won’t last while I’m out but will take the edge off at least.
I hope those who are poorly get better soon. Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Morning everyone,
Very, very cold here with lots of ice around, have had a message from the yard manager saying that, rather than risking walking the horses out to their fields, they will be kept in their stables all day, am happy with that but means my hay bill will be huge, oh well
Lulu loves being out in the snow Camelot she kicks her heels up and prances around like a proper snow pony. I have invested in a couple of expensive rugs for her and, unlike some of the other horses, she came in warm and dry after Sunday's blizzard. She is not a standard size due to the enormity of her shoulders in comparison to the rest of her so had to get them from a specialise shop, money well spent if she is comfortable and they don't rub.
I did get my cards written yesterday but the local shop didn't have any 2nd class stamps so will need to go into town and visit the post office, perhaps not today!
There is some bendy veg in the fridge so will be making soup this morning, I did get some salmon out of the freezer earlier so supper will be that, just not sure what with!
Take care folks, thoughts are with all struggling at the moment and get well wishes to all poorlies x0 -
Morning snowchicks
Sooooooooo cold here not particularly snowy but the ice is solid. I will be knowingly breaking the law soon by leaving the car running on the drive to defrost whilst I nip back in for more tea  I figure if anyone wanted to steal a car they would not choose mine when the neighbour has a very sporty Audi and does the same as me
So yesterday I had Smart meters fitted that right at this moment dont seem very Smart to me. Its supposed to be an hour appointment but was here over six in the end. The unit is only giving a reading for leccy at the moment so will need to ring them maybe tomorrow. He was a lovely guy though and ended up taking the infamous mattress upstairs for me after it got in his way once too often :rotfl: So I am very happy now to have a fully functional brand new wee free spare bed ...lessons have been learned for sure
Shopping with mother today ...oh joy.... if the weather gets worse though I will skip the lunch bit and get home before its too treacherous. Have a feeling we will miss the bad stuff though so no 'get out of morrisons free' card for me
Asda delivery arriving soon for me just wish mother would have the same but no......she likes to pick everything up, point at stuff for some strange reason...and still buy the same stuff she has had for the last 6 months. Hey ho
Enjoy your day all
