Powerpoint presentation image size?

What is the ideal image size for a Powerpoint presentation? Some of the images that I need are in portrait format.

Depends on the output size and the content.

What are you viewing it on and whats the standard resolution for that?

The traditional line is that you should import images at 100% of their original size, rather than resize them in PowerPoint, as this was always said to introduce instability into the PowerPoint file.

In practice I only found this was an issue in a large presentation with many resized images - if you have to resize the odd one or two, the world won't end.

So, I would look at resizing the originals, and if they are portrait (and presumably your PowerPoint slides are the standard landscape shape) you might want to crop them to more of a landscape shape.

Or select a slide style that allows you to put the image at, say, the top right and put meaningful bullet points to the left and below it.
