Help!! with annoying meter reading

Just switched over to Tonik and trying to put in my switchover meter readings BUT I have Economy Severn. Tonik gives me two boxes to fill in called 1 and 2, so which is Night and which is Day?!! I have googled endlessly but don't want to get it the wrong way round. The Tonik website is no help either and their phone lines are closed. Anyone help would be very gratefully received

  • Usually rate 1 is day, but not always, so the best way to make you don`t mess it up is to see which register moves in the daytime hours. Officially they are around .7.30am to 12.30am but these vary a little. There is a timer switch involved in Eco 7 and often these are out of kilter too
  • I'm pretty sure of which meter in my house is Day and Night (although they are actually called Low and Normal which is less than helpful), but Tonik gives me no indication of which box is for which.

Although, if Rate 1 is usually 'Day', would it be reasonable to assume they want me to submit my day rate in this field, do you reckon?

Maybe its a bit late to look at the day register now but if you note the number now to see if it moves a digit on before 12 pm. If your meter has tenths of a unit displaying you can see them moving around slowly.Digital meters don t usually show tenths of a unit and you will have to wait for the digit to move on a unit.
Its important to get this right.
Low is night rate, normal is day rate
Eco 7 meters will still be on the day rate now at 10.30 pm for a couple of hours
Its very common for both suppliers and meter readers to get the rates transposed so its good that the occupier can tell night from day

I would expect the day reading to go in rate one.
Meter readings on a switch go to a third party for verification, if you did enter them in the wrong boxes they'd fail verification, you wouldn't get an incorrect bill out of it.

I would wait and ask by phone. I am with 1st Utility and 1 = day and 2 = night. My friend is also with 1st Utility but they put in readings 1 = night and 2 = day.
  • Thanks everyone for your advice. Have decided to call them tomorrow to make sure. Am reassured by your reply though, Raxiel

Thinking about it, look at your contract, on the electricity unit rates, whichever is given first will be rate 1.

Which is almost certainly the day rate.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I've just been asked to provide my opening readings and I'm also Economy 7. I guess 1 is day, 2 is night on their website but would like to be sure before submitting.

Well I've just spoke to Tonik and they say that on the website 1 is Night and 2 is Day.
