New funds discovered post probate

My father passed in 2004 and probate was duly granted with no IHT as most of his estate went to my mother. My mother in the mean time has also passed in 2009. When she passed we had to pay a small amount of IHT and Probate was duly granted. We recently got notification from an investment company about some funds due to my father's estate. Do we have to pay further IHT on this as it would have by rights passed to my mother and then to us? Who do we contact? Any help/advice gratefully received.
Just to be clear both my parents lived in England.

Was there a residual beneficiary of your father’s estate? How much money is involved?

You go back to the executors and follow the chain of inheritance.

there is a concept know as "Chain of representation" should all the executors passed.
  • The estate probably does owe more IHT and it seems necessary for the executors to tell HMRC.
