£35k doesn’t sound very much for an extension and kitchen with quartz tops!
Good luck with beating them up, it isn’t attractive. I really think you should have shopped around when joins were mentioned at all, but I guess you’re a genius in hindsight too. How long is the long piece?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

That looks very unsightly. I see no need for a join on that island. I have a longer island with no joint. The granite looks quite a bit thinner than mine. The two pieces seem to be different thickness?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

We are massively disappointed in the customer service we have received from Howdens and after spending over 35k on a new extension/kitchen is very upsetting.
I have tried asking, I have tried offering pointers.
Forget your "massive disappointment" for a moment, remove emotion and face facts. You will need facts if you are to pursue this, or challenge anybody. The first point is you need to be certain who your contract and your order was placed with. The following points which are still unanswered are ... what Specification did you draw up, what was confirmed in writing for the worktop design, who manufactured the quartz, what product you chose, how many pieces, who templated, who fabricated, who installed, what were you expected to pay and what was the inspection, signing off and agreed payment terms.
If you are unable to give cast iron answers to these questions then any thought of legal action is pointless. Regrettably you would either have to wise up and be professional, or accept your situation much as it is.
As said before, you should still be trying to get some recompense.0 -
So island length before join is 196cm, standard top before is 280.
I need to get my facts together for the other things Furtz. So will respond back.
We were originally buying tops elsewhere and then Howdens offered us quartz, we went for it as we'd ordered our kitchen from them so didn't think too much about it in fairness and when they said it needed professionally fitting we trusted they'd knew what they were doing in this aspect.
In Hindsight we should've looked into it more so but we trusted them to be able to offer the correct service0 -
Having read the post I am surprised at the quality of the joints and as suggested why there is even a joint on the island in the first place. I run a Worktop company that makes and installs worktops similar to Quartz, from Recycled Glass. I would be happy to discuss what we could do to help with your issues. i am always keen to help people that have had bad experiences with previous installers. NIck
When you had your template taken was it done digitally or using korex (plastic sheet).0
