Cashing in of 65+ Guaranteed Growth Bonds

Yes that’s a fair point too because NS&I emailed with advance notice but I thought the website was very unclear about exactly when, i.e. how many days notice you had to give them, before you found yourself in territory where you were actually cashing in sufficiently in advance to incur a penalty.

I seem to remember they simply had a CASH IN button, rather than a CASH IN ON MATURITY option and it may be that giving them notice a little too early of cashing in intentions has actually incurred a small penalty to be triggered ?

I am letting ours go into the new 2.20% bonds automatically, I have looked around and can find nothing as good as what NS&I are offering.

My Chelsea 3yr fixed recently matured and again I could find nothing to touch to touch the NS&I 3 yr bond especially as the money is100% safe. The best the Chelsea now offers is 1.20%! so I have shifted that into the 3yr income bond paying 2.15%

Another thing to bear in mind is that if you do suddenly need your money or in the unlikely event that interest rates suddenly went 'sky-high' you can get it out albeit losing 90days interest on the amount so even if you go for the 3yr bond and withdraw a year or so later you still get a better equivalent rate (after accounting for the 90 day interest loss) than you would by going for a 1year bond.
