New sub-board for cryptocurrencies?

YesBecause it won't be a discussion. It will be details on why people should purchase them, why they are good etc. and encouraging people to purchase specific parts of it. This is not good for this consumer forum.
We only have 1 or 2 topics on specific investments on this forum and a thread is perfect for that. That is all.
We have already had this issue with gold a number of years ago.
It is not a good idea for those with limited understanding, coming onto this forum, seeing threads on buying crypto currencies and purchasing them.
How can people gain more understanding on crypto-currencies if they are unable to discuss it?I am insane and have 4 mortgages - total mortgage debt £200k. Target to zero = 10 years! (2030)0 -
NoI see no need at present. There has only been interest recently because it has shot up in value.
Back in 2011 the Savings & Investments Board had loads of gold and silver threads because the price was shooting up but they didn't get their own forum. Then the price crashed and they barely get a mention any more.
If a crypto currency actually ever becomes a "proper" currency (eg stable value, widely accepted as a form of payment) then we can revisit it.
PS I argued previously crypto currencies are currently more commodities than currency. If you do decide to set up a sub forum (whech I am not in favour of) I would suggest "Commodities and Crypto Currency" so precious metals etc can be included0 -

They can, in one monitored thread, not through a whole sub-board0 -

In a week the cryptocurrency craze will have died down and we will have another dead sub board which nobody reads. Like the ISAs and Tax-free Savings board.
I was going to say something similar. Within a year the bubble will have burst, there'll be lots of tears, and bitcoin will no longer be the flavour of the month.0 -

There shouldn't be. This is a Moneysavingexpert forum, the only place for gambling is the "Matched Betting" forum. (Which is about placing two bets in such a way that you can't lose, which is arbitrage, not gambling.)0 -

realaledrinker has posted on another thread suggesting a new board for Cryptocurrencies.
I've had a look through the Savings & Investments board. While it doesn't seem to be a dominant discussion compared to other topics in the last few days you may feel differently and we'd like to get your thoughts on whether it needs a place of its own.
I can't promise we'll be able to do it but it would be useful to gauge the majority opinion on here.
Thank you!
Hi. Would you kindly also take a look at my new thread in the Site Feedback section, asking about posts about Bitcoin being removed?
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5758322
For instance, as per my second post:Rather flaky. Used by criminals to hide their traces, money laundering ...
If Rory Cellan-Jones can say this sort of thing on BBC News, does it have to be censored here?
As I hint in the first post, I didn't direct such comment against participants in the now shortened discussion, so I don't think Bitcoin supporters are entitled to have such things suppressed.0 -
NoNew thread more than once a day: can anybody tell me more about Bitcoin? I can't be bothered to search to see if there might be previous discussion.
Board Guide then moves it to another board, or merges it to an existing thread, even harder for people to find, and even more new threads ...0 -
NoWhatever the outcome, any discussion regarding cryptocurrencies (be it a thread or sub-board) surely doesn't belong on a savings & investments board? It's quite disingenuous to house it here as, by definition, it's not a savings or investment product.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very intrigued by Bitcoin and alike; but the conversation should not be here.0 -

How can people post their concerns about crypto-currencies if you report them and get them removed? Not even wrong0 -
NoI'd rather see the Savings and Investments board split into two.. Savings for banks and building societies etc and shares and funds in the Investments.Even the Investments could be sub divided into Funds and Shares. I'm sure there's posters on here who have shares as well as funds. People could post their latest buys and get the views of other posters.0
