Claim myself after claim company inform me of PPI?

Hello. Finally caved in and asked ppi claim company to check for me as I was sure I didn't have any. They have informed me that I can claim against an old mortgage. To be fair to them they have told me I can claim myself. Is there more chance of a payout through them? I have found the paperwork from Alliance and Leicester and have phoned them. A&L ( now Santandar) said on the phone that they couldn't immediately see anything but will check and have sent paperwork. Do the claim company know something I don't? What does anyone think?
Thanks.

  • There's less of a chance of payout through the claims company.

If you actually did have PPI, and the terms of the claims company allows it, put in the complaint yourself.

Absolutely not. In fact, sending standardised letters of complaint with generic complaint reasons provides less chance of success. Plus you pay them a third (plus VAT) of any redress.

Sounds like you may not even have had PPI on this mortgage.

The claim company know you had a mortgage and are hoping you will sign up with them. Claim companies have no special powers of investigation and rely totally on what you tell them. If you didn't tell them you had this mortgage, they will have just performed tentative enquiries of your lenders. Nothing you could not have done yourself very simply and very free.
All they do is send your complaint on your behalf. A very expensive stamp.
