Bought one from Wilko the type thats just like thin metal with large gaps. Had a quick go with it and it seems to more stab the leaves, and yes the ground is frozen at moment, it is very muddy normally.
Its to rake up the leaves from the tree in garden that has covered the entire garden and jammed shut the gate..
Do I need this stabby type or do I need one that just drags the stuff.

You should get a better response on the Green fingers section, they are real helpful over there.0

the wire ones are good for thatch and moss.
I got given a Gark, although sceptical it is great for raking and scooping.
(not cheap, works with snow as well)

For £30 I got a cheap garden blower/vac from B&Q.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Thanks all, it was more I didn't want to spend a huge amount for something I can only use once a year and I don't have much spare space.0

I fell in love with Fiskars tools so I bought a Fiskars lawn rake:

You could always buy something similarly plastic rather than metal. Metal ones, as pointed out above, tend to be good at ripping out thatch and moss.0 -

it takes a few weeks for the leaves to drop won't you be doing it a few times?
if the main problem is them piling up blocking a gate you could just put some sheeting down
or get some leaf grabbers £3.50 Wilko0 -
also handy to have some garden waste bags if you are not composting
I use 120ltr ones but the smaller 90ltr ones are better if you want to use them for other things like shopping.
get square 45 x 45 x 60/45cm not round.0 -

They came down together a while back in heavy wind, before that was a few leaves here and there that I didn't bother picking up, the gardens around me have the same problem a single tree in garden that after the heavy wind all the leaves covered the garden.
The garden is a awkward thing anyway its like pure mud this time of year that your shoes sink into, a previous tenant has put some wonky slabs down (some cracked all at strange angles) still means sometimes you just walk to next slabs other you need a small skip.0
