Looking for three pairs of ceiling speakers.

Best quality for reasonable price - is around £50/pair a good budget?

Development project is wired to connect to a 'music system' in the corner of the room.

Any recommendations?

  • I can't help other than to say we've had ceiling speakers as part of our multi room system for years now and wouldn't be without them. Seamless music/tv/audio from room to room. No faffing with wifi and slow connections. Good luck with what you do, you won't regret it.

Depends on what quality you want. £50 each and upward would be a more realistic budget for decent ones.
You can get cheaper, like THESE
I no longer have any, but when I did mine I used a couple of Bose speakers rescued from a scrap Mazda 6. The sound was most acceptable while it lasted.

Thanks - they say 110V (?) - don't think we have wired for power.
    Am I misunderstanding this??

Don't forget to add on the cost of fire hoods especially if there is a living space above the ceiling you want to install the speakers in - otherwise you are providing a quick route for fire to spread through the house.

The 100v is a carrier voltage used in commercial installations with long cable runs. Basically you have losses when a signal is carried along a cable, these are tiny and can be ignored in domestic situations but in commercial setups with many speakers and long distances they add up so the farthest speakers becomes quieter.
In my experience most ceiling speakers have poor frequency range so get the best you can afford, Bose are good and the driver is important, once you have heard a Marantz system it is hard to find one as good. But they are very expensive.
Tell us your budget and exactly what you would like as there are some decent affordable systems around.

I'm not familiar with ceiling speakers in particular but, as Knightstyle suggests, £50 a pair? Really?

So, if like me, you are not familiar with ceiling speakers, why are you shocked at my query asking if £50 is a good budget?

Because I can't imagine any good speakers being available at that price, having bought many pairs of speakers over the years. But then again your definition of good may be different to mine. The only thing to do is listen to some & see what you think.

Well, having never bought ceiling speakers myself I'm a bit of a novice.
I did buy a pair of Wharfdale Denton 2's in the mid 70's though - don't think they were fifty quid. ;)
