Dehumidifier timer plug ..didn’t need one after alll

So I got a dehumidifier a few days ago. A friend advised me to get an external timer plug to save costs of electricity etc.
What happened next was a pita , but also quite comical.

I’m looking at the display as I’m plugging the dehumidifier and plug into the wall. The display of the external plug is very ‘80s lcd . There is a red light on the plug to indicate power / an on-offswitch / a reset button.
So I’m trying to look at the digits on the plug . Cannot decipher anything. I’m saying a few choice words . I then remove plug after a few minutes as the dehumidifier is not on at all.
Friend phones me . As I continue my Gallic language , I notice a tiny piece of polythene over the display. I peeled it off. It actually had digits on it so before that , I was literally seeing double. The display is obviously clearer now.

So I plug everything back in . Nothing . I told my friend , my dehumidifier has a timer. He says his hasnt. So I told him I don’t need the external plug, as the timer in the dehumidifier is cancelling the external plug. He thinks the plug is faulty. I do not. So, if it’s not broke don’t fix it is the way to go here.

The dehumidifier is great btw. :)

  • There's no need for a timer. Every dehumidifier I've seen or owned works on a humidistat so it kicks in and out depending on the relative humidity of the air. There's no point saving electricity if all you're doing is stopping the unit from doing its job some of the time, you're not getting the return on the purchase outlay.

I've had many dehumidifiers and many of them don't have a humidistat.
