Halifax, bad customer service

I opened a saving account online recently. I telephoned customer service to request a atm card, I am advised to visit my local branch with ID and my bank card.

I visit customer service in the branch, the adviser insists on being heard, and tells me the account I opened does not come with a card.

I ask if I can open a account with a card, and told to go online. I complain customer service on the phone told me the account does come with a card, i am told no.

I request to close the account, and I am advised to see the bank teller.

I advise the bank teller I want to close the account, I ask if the teller can tell me which account to open with a atm card, I am advised to book an appointment with the financial adviser or go online.

The customer service adviser then joins me at the window, and explains what I want to do.

The teller advises me the account I opened does come with a card. I am advised a card and new pin number will follow in the next five days.

If I had not wanted to close the account, i would of left the branch and closed the account online, not good Halifax.

I have a Halifax online savings a/c - it specifically says "without ATM card". For an ATM card you need a current a/c. To open a current a/c you do have to present proof of id etc. in branch.

ok, how does this information relates to my experience in the branch?

Seems you just wasted loads of time ringing customer services and going into the branch. If you had just read online that it comes with a card then you could have just waited for it to arrive in the post?.

But i don't see why you would want one when you can transfer money to your current account in a few seconds online and then withdraw it from that account, saves having loads of cards.

your correct i wasted a lot of time. you are incorrect regarding telephoning customer service. I contacted customer service because i was unsure if I would receive a card, especially as there was not a option to request one.

Again your so wrong. a ATM card would never of arrived as I had to request this in the branch with some Identity.

In regards to why i wanted a card, because I wanted one, it is as simple as that. You are correct, you can transfer money online, you can also transfer money through the telephone automatic service, through a live person on the telephone and by visiting the branch.

I guess that would save you loads of cards, but this suggests I have loads of cards already, again unrelated to myself

Exactly which account do you have? None of the Halifax savings accounts offer an ATM card.

I'm not convinced the miscommunication is all on one side.
  • I'm confused why you'd think a savings account would come with a card? Did the folk in the branch think you wanted to open a current account?

My YBS Internet Saver account comes with a card, although it's only for ATM use rather than a full debit card. But I can't see any Halifax savings account that obviously comes with a card, so maybe the OP can clarify which one it is.

If OP communicated with the employees of Halifax as they have to the people on this thread, I am not surprised if there has been any miscommunication.

I also feel sorry for those employees.
