£10 Christmas Bonus

Right I have my tin hat at the ready.

Does anyone agree that it is time that this £10 yearly payment is stopped. I can’t imagine that anyone is desperate for this measly payment.
The amount has never increased over the years nor is it likely to. I for one would forgo the payment and let the combined total go towards some increase in benefits for working age people which has been again frozen this year.

Perhaps some people are so hard up that the £10 is welcome?

My 10 year old son is disabled and we spend our bonus each year on stuff for the food bank. So Indirectly ours does go to the needy. But that’s because we are fortunate enough to not really need it.

Just been Googling (acceptable between consenting adults) and discovered it was introduced in 1972 and hasn't increased since. The link I found stated that in 2009 it should have increased to £98 to keep pace with inflation.
I'm assuming it's means tested so I have no issue with people continuing to receive it, although it probably costs more in admin costs than is paid out.

Yes stop it but not until people on state benefits are given a cost of living rise.

I suppose you could stop it for non-Christians, although the cost of checking that with Census data would outweigh the saving.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.
  • I believe the £10 should not be stopped...it should be increased to a minimum of £100.

And yes, some people ARE desperate for their payment.

    Interesting.
At today's prices that would be approx £123!

I've just checked the qualifying criteria, and it would seem that because I'm in receipt of State Pension I qualify. Just off to book my round the world cruise:)

PS. As I'm a tax payer I only get eight quid out of it - I wuz robbed!
