UC and self assesment

Dear All :)

In the Tax Year 2016/17 someone I know:
- worked as an employee for 4 months and was registered as self employed
- was claiming universal credit when stopped working

He was asked to do tax self assessment. Does he need to declare any amounts received as UC payments? As far as I know UC is not taxable pension and all he needs to put into his self assessment is salary received from work and money earned from his small online business before he went for benefits.

Could anyone please confirm if I am wright?

Many thanks and happy weekend

Tax returns are for taxable income.

UC is not taxable so there is nowhere to put it on a tax return.

I don't know what you mean by UC is not taxable pension

For the job they need to put taxable salary which is often different to "salary received". Their P45 should have the figures required.
