Have you tried reporting the violation via https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/208282075858952/?ref=u2u ?
  • Sorry. I should have said. She does have her own Facebook page but she’s not very computer literate and has nowhere near the amount of time the faker has.

How about contacting / messaging the false Facebook page and trying to communicate with whoever manages it.

Who knows you might be able to get them to publish correct information about the pub if they are looking for something to keep themselves busy.

Any rival pubs nearby? Quite a clever way to ruin a pub's reputation.

Whatever the motivation of the poster, I think your friends best way forward is to get savvy with their own facebook page and maintain pressure on facebook to take down the fake page.

Has it actually affected revenue? If your friend can demonstrate that, then she could start legal proceedings on that basis and then I think Facebook would have to reveal the owner's identity if it were subject to an ongoing investigation. But it sounds like a lot of work.

If it has affected her revenue, then she's been forced into doing something about it. She needs to get a marketing plan together and get on with it. If technology isn't her thing, there's plenty of other things you can do.

  • Interesting the number of people that rather than tackle the criminal offence taking place suggest going into competition on social media and blame the victim for not advertising properly.

Attitudes of some MSE posters are very disappointing if they reflect society as a whole.

Doesn't advertising your business count as real work?

Just about every pub round here has its own FB page - those who don't miss out on trade.

    This is nonsense.

report the fake page/s, when logged in as the real one. And put a notice on own home page. warning of imitations.

Perhaps you need to get off your high horse and think a bit more pragmatically about solutions that may work without needing to put in an inordinate amount of time and effort.

if you google a lot of places you often get multiple hits on web, FB etc.

even some of the major chains get multiple hits for their pubs on web and FB and twatter and it is not always obvious which are official ones.

Get the regulars up to speed on the problem

The web site and the social media have to be up to date, I see some pubs still have 2016 Xmas menus on their sites last time I looked in the summer.

You have to be into your web presence and do a proper job or not bother and keep it very time insensitive.

So two approaches spring to mind..and both could be put into action together.
    1. As an above poster says 'passing off' is an offence here , she could write again to facebook explaining this to them and maybe suggesting that this is the first port of call before a solicitor is engaged to follow it up.
    2. Find someone who will help her build her own facebook business page and call it the 'REAL .... pub page'. She could employ a person to run and maintain the page for her.
