Black Dust Problems

I have quite a complex problem with my boiler and the gas pipe coming from the meter.
Basically the boiler is under warranty and have had 2 call out already with the gas valve constantly getting clogged up.
The Vaillant engineer has told us the there is debris or 'Black Dust in the gas pipe and to change the pipe and get an 'inline gas filter installed to the pipwork to stop this.

So after a long hard struggle managed to find a gas man to do this anyway the boiler gas valve has gone faulty again within the space of 3 months and Vaillant came back out and have now told me that the supply coming from outside is no good and I need to get intouch with national grid to get them to investigate and maybe change the pipework coming into my property.

So I rang national grid and they aren't have a bar of it denying it point black that it could be their pipework and blaming the new copper pipe inside my house for the black dust.

I'm at a loss now what to do as Vaillant have told me they will not do anymore visits to my house until I get this sorted with the gas supply.

Did you get a filter fitted as per Vaillant's suggestion? If this was fitted wouldn't it help indicate the dust is coming the main incoming pipe.

  • Get a gas safe registered engineer to contact national grids gas emergency service and tell them you have dirty gas. They will come and check your incoming supply. I dont see how they can say no without coming out to check the incoming service. Make sure you dial the correct number.

No,,it isnt national grids gas. They only transport it.

You really must get an in line filter fitted to your boiler supply to trap the foreign matter.

It may well be being caused by sulphidisation ,a reaction on the internal walls of the copper pipework in your home. See here.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
