Hey,

I'm looking at a property in Ossett that ticks a lot of boxes, except that it's ~1300 metres (0.85 miles) east of the big sewage plant (to the SW of Ossett).

(There's also an historic tip very close...waiting on the contamination report for that)

Does anyone have any knowledge of the effects of it in the Runtlings Lane area?

It seems to be a popular area, not many houses only with a short duration between sales. Prices seem to strong, steadily increasing with each sale. The streets nearby have some very nice detached properties.

I've only been able to view the area and property over the past couple of month in colder weather.

Thanks

  • To reply to my own thread...I contacted someone who lives on the same road and they said "it is surprising how infrequent that you do smell something strange in the air". Someone else on the same road said it's just normal countryside smells.

I understand Yorkshire Water have quite a good reputation, and the site was granted a licence under new (stricter) conditions last year, so I guess it's managed well.
  • I lived on Westfield St for 13 years and the only smells I can remember were from the fields after the farmers had been muck spreading.

    nice catch 00sec25 !

there really should be some logic to stop posters from blitzing their original post after others have replied.

Thank you. People deleting their OPs irritates me greatly as the information could be useful for other people.

  • What do you say . .

Erm, Ossett sewerage stinks just like any other sewerage . . hope this helps :(
  • Sorry people, restored post. Back on topic...

I'm totally confused now "societys child" (thanks for your input though!): One person on the street who lived there 13 years saying it's very infrequent that it smells, another who's been there one year who says she likes living in Ossett and it's just normal countryside smells, loads of people on here (in other posts) who wouldn't entertain the idea at all due to the proximity, houses going up in value in the area...

Maybe, but the odour emanating from different plants varies massively depending on how enclosed the various processes are.
  • Erm, yeah, not forgetting wind direction, and many other variables . .
  • Would like to add to anyone commenting: MSE comes up very high in google search results. While I appreciate comments based on local knowledge, uninformed/baseless/wrong comments left here could be bad for homeowners in the area.
