The game installs some of the data from the disc to the drive, meaning load times and the game itself runs faster as it is not needing to access the disc all the time.

So by having a disc does this mean as I thought that you use up less data on the HD using a disc than if you download the game. Or is the amount of data used the same?

Yeah, using a disc uses less storage space on the HDD than if you were to buy the game from the store.

I've just checked, and MW2 is about a 48GB install from the store, plus all the updates as and when they release them. On the HDD with the disc version it takes up about 60GB but there are plenty of updates that have been released for it. Plus you can delete from the HDD and install again, if you do that with digital you will need to download the 48GB again!

You also have to bear in mind whether your internet is fast enough and how long it will take to download 48GB of data, anything like my kids they want to play NOW and not wait a few hours to download a game.

There is also cost to bear in mind, discs will start off and get cheaper than digital downloads, plus 3 months down the line a disc will be half price or so, but the download will pretty much stay the same.

How many games will they be playing, just sitting on Minecraft permanently or wanting to play different ones?

Personally I would get the biggest one you can afford, or see what it costs for a 500GB PS4 and an external/internal bigger drive, I paid about £60 for a 2TB drive for mine.
