Anybody else shocked at how much company car tax is. I was offered a field job and when I looked at a company car tax calculator website I was astounded. I would have been paying £2000 a year to use a car for work and probably zero personal miles due to my family having a car already. I remember being taxed a few hundred pound a year for a passat in 2004 but that similar car is now nearly £2000 a year. Its a wonder they can find anybody to do any field job anymore. Would be nice to know if you can still opt for 100% business use and pay no tax. Yep just realized LOL

You can opt for business use only but the car needs to be left at your employer premises and not taken home.

Of course you would then need to make your own way into work to collect the car and then get home again once you dropped the car off.

The chancellor changed the taxing of company cars a few years ago because employers were giving cars instead of pay rises and so the exchequer lost out on the taxes.
  • Its still cheap. I drive a £30k company car, can use it for private miles, no VED, no repair bills, no servicing bills, no tyre bills, no insurance all for £140 a month and change it every 3 years
