New Front Door

I'm moving soon and want a new front door, seeing as we would change the locks anyway might as well change it now!
Anyway i've been quoted around £600 for supply and fitting of a upvc front door with 2 glazed panels and solid lower half.
Does this seem right, and do you think i would get it cheaper if i bought the door myself and just paid someone to fit it?
TIA

If you buy yourself, you are responsible for accurate measuring and thus manufacturing. There is a risk you will get this wrong unless you are used to doing this. Then you have to find someone to fit it. Since they will not be making a profit on the materials this search may be difficult. Finally you have to consider your legal duties under the Buildings Regulations - energy efficiency, glass type, and fitting. You will have to make an Application, and get an Inspection.
For most people seeking a FENSA installer (or similar) is the easy option. Whilst I never recommend self certification - which is what FENSA is - people remain in love with such schemes. So here I am whistling into the wind!0 -

More research needed. If you ever choose to sell your house you will be asked to provide certification that your windows are compliant with building regulations (FENSA certificate). If you dont provide them you might find someone isnt willing to buy your house or insists on a reduction or an indemnity policy which they will probably ask you to pay for.
EDIT: Usually if you get a fitter to come round and quote they are FENSA fitters as such they take care of all the paperwork things that a DIYer would otherwise have to do.0 -

I hope that's top of the range. Paid under that for my composite door and around a hundred for fitting. Though obviously composite might be a bad choice if it's southern facing.
I guess it depends where you are. My father got a new upvc door fitted for under four hundred.0 -
Thank you all!!
I'd definitely rather pay someone to do it if it eliminates all that hassle for me haha.
I dont want to do things by half measures but as a FTB i wasn't sure if i was getting ripped off.0 -

Sorry i completely missed that you had just bought. You should be in the process of getting paperwork off the seller, in that there should be documents relating to the windows. These are FENSA certificates and all newer fitted windows and doors should have them (cant remember when it came in to force sorry). If you want to replace a door you should ensure you get one (and keep hold of it) so you can provide reassurance and compliance to any would be buyers.
p.s. welcome to home ownership and a whole heap of rules you never even knew existed. Put off doing the bathroom for as long as possible if you want to keep your sanity due to ignorance of building regulations.0 -
That doesn't sound too bad.
I needed a new door for my garage so shopped around and got the cheapest door in the range with no glazing and it was around £400.0
