Utility Warehouse Mis-sold Dual Fuel

  • Previously with GB ENERGY.
Comparing both bills, last years was cheaper.
The UW agent is our local politician & visited to discuss another matter, but took the opportunity to sell his wares on the back of it!
    The readings given are actual.
So with this information, could I proceed with mis-selling?

Gb Energy before it failed was fantastically cheap. Many people found an increase of 20% when they had to switch.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If you used £101 worth of leccy and £91 worth of gas in October how do you reckon that your £93 dd was going to cover it. Isn't there somewhere else on the bill/statement that tells you what you owe or dont you bother to read it all.

I'm not even sure how those numbers are derived

Surely your monthly statements should have indicated to you that your £93 was insufficient and that you had a growing deficit apart from the fact that the rates you are paying do seem excessively high to me.

You could try argueing that you were miss-sold but my counter argument would be that it's taken you nigh on a year to do something about it and what proof have you got?
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • The UW agent set the DD, we assumed that this would cover the bill.

When using comparison sites, you enter your yearly energy usage & they give you a recommended monthly DD fee, thinking UW would use the same approach, obviously not.

"Sales staff may ask you how much you currently pay for energy per month and simply set your direct debit at a lower amount to encourage you to switch"

Again I refer to the above point, but you seem to think there is no case?

Signed up to Utility Warehouse 12 months ago. After providing the Agent with our previous 12 months dual fuel use, he calculated the figures & he offered us a really good deal (or so we thought). We paid the set fee every month. Received a letter from them a couple of days ago, informing us we have a deficit of £877. Our new monthly budget plan has increased to £275 from £93! In hindsight we would have been better staying put. We have always been in credit previously. I have sent an e-mail of complaint. This is surely mis-selling? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

With respect, he didn't 'calculate the figures' - he estimated.

You didn't pay a 'set fee' you paid a sum toward the cost of energy(and possibly any other services you were sold)

Your gas/electricity prices are very high, some of the highest in UK. However you can console yourself that the salesman got his commission, as do several others in the chain. It would be quite normal if you were a friend/relative/colleague.

Agent is local politician ! ?

If the reason for the visit was to discuss a problem the OP had with Local Community, or even National services, then taking the opportunity to sell UW and earn personal income is well out of order.

Really needs a letter of Complaint to the chairman of the political party concerned
Only a small revenge, but it can be taken at the ballot box during the next election
