Inheritance due

Hi not sure if this is the right place to ask.
My father passed when I was young and money was put into a inheritance trust? Which I will receive when I turn 25 (in January). My nan (his mum) was the executer but she died a few years ago. I remember her saying she had made someone else executer as she was becoming unwell. But not sure of who it was, I think someone within this profession. I know the now executer is not family.
But Will I be contacted before/after I turn 25? How will it come about to them finding me? I’ve moved since my nan changed it over. I don’t know an awful lot about it as I never spoke about it much with her.

This website may help: http://https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
It costs £10 to get a copy of the will and probate (which shows the executor's details).0 -
I’ve looked already. There’s nothing in her will. She wasn’t in the greatest of minds when it was re-done a month before she passed away. But that’s a whole new thread.0

You need to look at your father’s probate records to see who wound up his estate.
If this was handled properly and a trust was set up with trustees appointed I would have expected that you would have had some correspondence from the trustees at some point in the last 7 years, but often, especially where smaller sums are concerned, the money is just placed in a savings account somewhere, so dont expect to be automatically be handed your inheritance. Even worse the money may not be in your name.
I hate to tell you this but conditions in wills about not getting your inheritance at a certain age are not usually enforceable, so you almost certainly could have sorted this out when your Nan was still alive.0 -
I think your nan was probably the trustee of the trust that was set up for you.
It might be possible that there is one or more trustees so you really need to be looking at your dad's will rather than your nan's.0 -
Who was the executor of your Nan's will? It's probably worth contacting them to ask them about it, because they are likely to have access to your Nan's paperwork.
also, get a copy of your dad's will to see whether there was a second trustee and contact them. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Definitely need to do this, as it is quite possible your inheritance has been sitting in an account in your nans name and will have been assumed to be part of her estate.0 -
I wasn’t included in my dads will as I was only months old when he died. So my nan made sure I was included and the money was split between me and his children from previous marriage. But I don’t know of their where abouts to ask.
I know the executor of my nans will, so will ask there and only find something. Thanks for your help0 -
As you were not part of your father's will the trust was formed at your Nan's behest and all documents relating to it will be in your Nan's papers. The money does not form part of her estate as she is only the legal and not the beneficial owner of the trust moneys.
Your problem is communicating with your Nan's executor so they investigate where this money is kept. Although the trust money isn't part of the estate, the executor has a duty to deal with all of the deceased's affairs, including funds she holds as a trustee..0 -

If you weren't included in your dad's will, would the nan have the right to (in effect) to alter the will to include you?
Surely her role as executor is to carry out the instructions in the will, not to modify it to what she thought would be a fairer distribution?0 -

If she was the only / main beneficiary she could have made her sons’s childen beneficiaries through a DoV, but I fear that some bodged DIY solution was put in place and there is no one left alive who knows what was done.0
