Help - ordered 2 x 3-seater sofas 14 weeks ago and have just received 2 single chairs

Hi
We have waited 14 weeks for 2 new 3-seater reclining sofas but when they were delivered this week the company had ordered 2 single chairs. I cannot believe it!
We have redecorated our lounge and made all the preparations for the arrival of the new furniture, which unfortunately included disposing of our 2 old sofa’s last weekend as we were told there needed to be the space for the delivery people to bring in the new sofas.
On the day the company said to keep the 2 chairs until they could sort out the mix up. They have then apologised profusely that they have made a mistake but not offered us anything. After a lot of discussions on the phone and email correspondence and now speaking to the sales director, we now hope to receive the correct sofas in a further 12-16 weeks time and have managed to get them to find 1 sofa for us, which hopefully they will be delivering tomorrow, but it is nothing like what we have ordered, and at the moment I will only believe it when I see it. They have large furniture showrooms within their stores throughout the country, so have plenty of access to a few sofas, but they have only managed to come up with one - or so we hope - it hasn't been delivered yet… There are 4 adults in our family and we regularly have guests, but over the next few weeks (i.e. the Christmas period) this will be even more so. Right now we just have 2 single chairs.
We have spent nearly £3,000 to be left in a worse situation than we were in last weekend. I would not have minded a further delay if we still had our previous sofas. I had called the company a number of times to find out when the sofas would be delivered and no one said chairs, not sofas. All seemed to be so good last weekend and now everything is a mess because of their mistake and the fact they don't seem to double check anything. Spending nearly £3,000 is a lot of money for us and to end up with this, it is just a nightmare.
I don't want this to happen to anyone else, but I cannot see that it will not, unless they change their processes. The sales person has very clearly written 3 seater sofa in capitals on the sales document but somehow this has not been read by the person placing the order. If they had just written to us to confirm what they had ordered, then none of this would have happened or if someone had just taken the care to further check the order.
We are going to try to claim compensation but would welcome thoughts from others as to how much this should be. I still cannot quite believe what the company has done and I'm not sure they realise how much this is upsetting us and causing us great inconvenience. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

You posted on an incorrect thread earlier, but it may be easier for everyone if you ask the board guide to merge your old comments with this new thread.

I would suggest that as they are leaving the 2 singles with you for now, and delivering a 3 seater which will hopefully meet your seating requirements over the next few months, the amount of compensation you are due is nothing.
It's a mistake. An annoying mistake. They've done the best they can for now, and are going to put it right.0 -

Well if they loan you a three seat sofa and you have use of the two chairs what do you value the lack of one seat to be?
Once they complete the order what is your monetary loss?
You could always cancel for a full refund.0 -

You could probably push them for £50 as a bit of a sweetener, I'm sure they'd pay that to keep you happy. Would that help the situation?0 -
If you end up with two sofas, there's no compensation due.
In short: there has been a delay, you'll get what you ordered, no compensation.
Yes you wouldn't have got rid of your old sofas and yes it's Christmas and yes it's a life savings fortune investment.... but, the reality is, you will get what you paid for.
As for your guests, nobody except you minds the inconvenience of "the wrong sofas" ... and, if I quizzed your guests after they left your house they probably wouldn't even be able to describe the sofa they sat on while inside your house.
Other people's sofas..... are not sufficiently good/interesting to note and remember or care about.
Their visit won't have been spoiled by "the wrong sofas". Visitors is about people, not what they've got (or not in your case).0 -
Where were your guests going to sit if you had have recieved the new sofas? You ordered a 2 and 3 seater = 5 seats, they've left you with 2 chairs and are delivering a sofa = 5 seats.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

No, we ordered 2 x 3 seater sofas = 6 seats, not a 2 and a 3. But you can fit more than 3 on a 3 seater sofa - 5 to 6 at a push. I just hope the sofa does get here. They promised to call today when they will deliver it but I have heard nothing as yet. Fingers-crossed they will call and once we have a 3 seater then hopefully I will feel a bit better about it all.0 -

You think you can fit 6 people on a 3-seater sofa? Are you on drugs? Yes maybe 6 children or 6 midgets, but 6 adults! Ridiculous.
(I have 2x 3 seaters and could fit 4 on if they squish. It's called a 3 seater because it can seat 3 people, comfortably!)0 -
I can appreciate you're annoyed but in situations like this I find its better to think of a solution to the seating problem rather than getting worked up about the lack of sofas.
My solution would be deckchairs0
