Windows 7 Not Saving Changes to Personalization & Background Updates

Morning all,

I'm hoping that some kind soul might be able to help me out with a relatively trivial issue that I have been experiencing with my laptop that I have just purchased, the details are as follows:-

The first relates to the perzonalization changes that I make to the background colour settings / screensaver and theme, as despite going through the usual process of Applying and then saving the changes, within an hour or two the screen reverts back to a basic black background and setting. I've repeated the process several times, without success, can anybody help please?

Many thanks

OK so this could be a couple of things.
Is it a brand new install of windows or have you already installed some stuff on it ?

    First things to try :-

Click start, RIGHT click on computer and click properties.
Go to the advanced tab and choose performance
Then click the "custom" option instead of "let windows choose whats best ....."

    See how you get on

I suspect that the issue is Windows is disabling the areo theme and switching to basic theme when the computer is under load
