Microwave above oven

Have new kitchen going in and the oven unit has a space above it for our built in microwave.
Samsung microwave manual says that there should never be a microwave above a conventional oven.
Confused as other microwaves/tall kitchen units say its ok?
Don't know what to do?
Thanks

  • We had a new kitchen fitted last year with an AEG Combination Microwave oven installed above an AEG Conventional oven.

I have seen this type of installation many times.

Does the Samsung manual state why you should not install it above a conventional oven?

Can you purchase a different microwave that does not have this restriction?

    Thanks,

Doesn't have any info as to why, it just says it must not be done.
Looked at many other microwaves and haven't seen a problem as you say.
Can't buy another one as had it for ages as kitchen install was held up for ages.

I don't see a problem myself but warranties etc!

There is a picture of a Samsung microwave over an oven if you clcik through the images on this AO appliance

So cant see why not, unless they mean not to just stand it on top of an oven??

Yes, checked the AO link cheers.
Just noticed there’s a sticker on the microwave with an icon. It has the microwave above a built in oven!
I think the manual does mean a stand-alone oven with a hob on top.

    Thanks guys.
  • The main problem is the heat generated by the conventional oven rising.
Microwaves require a lot of cooling to keep the electronics/magnetron cool. Sucking in hot air can make the 'cooling' actually 'heating' and seriously risk premature failure.

Ours is in a unit above an oven and it has been fine so far (though not supposed to be there! ) however there is lots of space around the microwave and a path for cool air to available.
(Our previous old microwave in a similar position went 'pop'!)
  • Our microwave is above double oven and no problems in 10 years. Microwave is specific built-in version which at time was considerably more expensive than worktop version despite being bare metal on all sides except the front. One issue is installation heights - had to install oven lower than recommended so that microwave wasn't above head height.
