His I'm new to the forum.
I've have a question concerning my banks. Basically I'm trying to do ppi myself. It's very hard for me and I find it difficult to deal with other people. But I plucked up the courage and the first 2 of the banks. I was stunned to hear from both banks that although I'm on there systems there are NO records of me. My files have been deleted. Both banks said we cannot carry on with ur ppi claim.
Can anyone help me please
Thanks
Paul

If you don't have details of your accounts and neither do they, there is nothing you can do.0

To see what info any company has on you, you send £10 and a SAR to them.

Firms are required, by law, to destroy data on consumers where there is no longer a reason to hold on to it.
Your current bank will hold onto data longer as you are a current customer. However, even they cull data over time. Banks where you no longer have a relationship will cull data quicker as, in most areas, they will have no justifiable reason to hold onto data about you.
In the end, all they may end up holding is the fact that the account number belonged to you.
The rate at which companies destroy data varies and is not set in law. The FCA give guidance at 6 years after the end of the transaction or relationship in most areas. Higher risk areas can be longer or even indefinite (pension transfers for example).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
