First direct are very picky with who they want as customers.

    Owned by HSBC.

Martin Lewis always raves about them because they probably gave him an account in return for him having to tirelessly promote them. But at the end of the day nobody listens to Martin Lewis he’s got his beak in everything, first direct aren’t really the best. Barclays or Bank of America are.

Did Rita tell you to say that?

This is manifestly not true - if I had a pound for every time I saw forum posts including phrases like 'Martin recommended this account....' or addressing him in the second person, as if he wrote the articles and will be reading the replies, then I'd have been able to buy the site myself a few years ago.... :)

Are you listening to Jimmycam? Surely, at the end of the day nobody listens to Jimmycam - the wannabe (but not remotely convincing) Walter Mitty of MSE.

    thanks airliebird!

does anyone know if you can rename the accounts, e.g. change Savings Account to Holiday Savings, for example?

I only access First Direct online banking from my desktop and renaming accounts can't be done. Not sure about the mobile banking app though.

You can't rename them on the app either.

Hmm, that's a bit of a basic bummer... So if you set up a few savings accounts, you have to remember which is which by the account number...

An odd statement. Based on what? Nothing suggests that in this thread. Several have had an account for some time, but that doesn't mean they don't have other accounts or they've never tried other accounts.

I've been with FD for some years, but I'm also with, er, all the other banks too.

I have been trying to resolve an account issue with First Direct for over 3 weeks, you can not get anyone to give you an honest answer or take ownership. You can not email Joe Gordon the CEO he blocks all emails, very poor. Jim Stringer in Customer Relations attitude is if you don't like it complain to the ombudsman, but can't be bothered to actually look at the problem.

If you want terrible service when there is a problem then use First Direct, for any kind of service use another bank! Don't be fooled by those that have average day to day banking with them, when there is a problem First Direct don't give a fig - as proved by Joe Gordon.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
