Replace boiler and tanks with combi?

Options
We have an old valiant boiler in our kitchen, and an airing cupboard with water cylinder in it and 2 tanks in the loft, the boiler is approx 15 years old. We are doing some decorating/plastering and if we replace the boiler with a modern combi boiler, we could do away with the airing cupboard (and tanks in the loft) and make a larger spare bedroom (and gain storage space in the loft).

What sort of saving could we expect to make by having a new combi (condensing?) boiler fitted?

We are trying to work out if we should do it in the spring so we can plan a larger spare room, and to save money to on heating and hot water bills?

Maybe 10% to 20% of your existing gas bill.

It will probably have just paid for itself by the time you need to replace it again. ;)
  • Daughter had a combi boiler in her last house. If hubby was taking too long in the shower, she'd turn the kitchen hot tap on, shower promptly went cold and hubby got the hint!

Personally, I'd go for a condensing boiler and keep the current indirect hot water system - this is what we did November 2016 when our boiler went TU.

.. but you can't put a price on the added convenience, extra space, etc.

FWIW, my parents-in-law have just replaced an ancient conventional boiler with a combi, and took advantage of the change to put TRVs on all the radiators. They now have more control over the individual rooms (whereas before everything hinged on the one thermostat in the hall), and have seen their monthly gas bill fall by around one-fifth.
