NOW TV box- Does it convert Televion to smart TV

What are the functions of the NOW TV box. Does it convert a television into Smart TV. Or is it better to buy Amazon Fire Stick or a similar product. Any advise will be appreciated.

The Now TV box is a limited version of a Roku box or streaming stick. It doesn't really convert your TV to a Smart TV, though it offers some features of a Smart TV (streaming video services).

You get a small number of catch-up/on-demand TV providers (BBC iPlayer, ITV, C4, etc.) along with the Now TV service (subscription after any introductory offer).

The Roku boxes/sticks provide the same and more, although there is a lot of junk on there - although you can choose which channels to add to your device.

Personally, I have Rokus and happy with those. Amazon Fire Stick may also suffice. Now TV box is only worth it if you're happy with Sky limiting what third-party channels are available.

Depends also on how much TV you watch. If you just want to use Freeview and top up the range of channels you can get as well as increase your range of catch-up services, NowTV does it very well. The Firestick will do the same job for catch-up services if you prefer access to Netflix instead.

The NOW TV box was best before they blocked the ability to side-load a third party application.
But if you only pay £10 or so for it, can still be useful.
Better to purchase a second hand Roku now.

Also depend on what you watch as others have said now tv will give you cath up and sky stuff . Great unless say you want to watch netflix . A roku will i belive do both services ,Wilth a amazon fire stick you get either net flix or amazon prime video

Yeah, Roku gives you access to Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Now TV, various catchup services, a bunch of ad-supported free channels (although usually old, non-HD, public domain content), specialised subscription channels such as Shudder TV, NHL TV and a gajillion niche interest channels of wildly varying quality.
