Plumbing Shop rip off.

Having recently got a plumber to check out a leaky boiler, I was advised to get a part from my local Plumb Center in Aberystwyth (WORSELEY parts) only to be told that it was the wrong one. My plumber told me not to worry and that he would get the part himself and that I could return mine for a refund. I attempted to do this and was astonished to find out that it would cost me 25% of my purchase price as a re-stocking charge (there are signs all over the shop i was told) The part was picked off a shelf within seconds at the shop (and not specially ordered) the part cost me £80 and the 25% amounts to £20 in this case. The mistake was totally mine which I accept, however does it cost £20 to put something back onto a shelf and amend the accounts. *****smells like something similar to the bank charge fiasco*****. I haven't accepted my 75% refund yet, as I'm taking issue with the company head office. Anyone have any tips? Can they do this?

I believe they can do that as I know the shop pretty well if I am interpreting the name you have given correctly. I'd be a bit annoyed with the plumber really as he should have bought it not you and as he is a plumber he should have trade accounts so get trade discounts on parts. Does your plumber have a trade account with Wolsey or whatever they are called (i am assuming I have interpreted the name correctly) so he could return it on your behalf perhaps? Alternatively, he should have been specific re the part so that there was no mistake. Been there, done that and worn the T !!!!

It's standard practise in almost all building suppliers, make sure you are 100% sure you are getting the correct part next time.
