change of address & car insurance

Options
I renewed my car insurance in July, knowing i would be moving house in a few months (to a better area). I told the insurance company this and was told to call them up to change my details when i moved and that it would cost me £30, but if the insurance at the new address would be cheaper i would get the difference in money back.

However now i have been told that i will recieve nothing. I have had a quote online with the new address and the price is £300 cheaper.

This is my second year of driving and therefore only the second cover i have taken out, so i am not sure what i am entitled to. Dp they normally give you money back or not.

Has anyone else changed adress and if so - did they recieve any money back?
:confused:I say im a moneysaver, my family think im a cheapskate!

I changed address and got nothing back, again moving to supposed lower risk area. I guess if you moved to a worse risk area, would you expect to pay more? Probably not.

In your case as the difference is so large, can you cancel the original policy and then take out new one, even if you have to pay an admin charge you might still save.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
  • ill have to look into it and see how much it would cost to cancel my current insurer.

However the problem is that the lowest quote is with the provider i am with right now. So i dont know if its possible to cancel my existing policy with them and then create a new one.

I am just hoping they will give me the difference, saving me from going through the process of canceling and then reapplying with someone else, as well as the extra costs.

yes you would, I moved to a slightly higher risk area and had to pay the difference plus the admin fee.

I think if you have not claimed on the insurance you can cancel it and they should refund the cost of the remainder of the year (probably minus an admin fee again:rolleyes: )
Then you could take out a new policy with the cheaper insurers.

    Wishy,

I stand corrected. It goes to show that IMHO insurance is a racket!
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
