Received somebody else's AA payment?

Hi, I've received a mystery payment into my current account, and the payment reference in in the format: (Somebody's NI number) DWP AA. Does this mean I have mistakenly received somebody's Attendance Allowance? If so, how do I go about giving it back? I've had a search and can't find anything on how to give money back to the DWP! Thanks

It would certainly seem that you have received a payment due to somebody else if you aren't claiming AA or the NI number isn't yours.
There is an Attendance Allowance helpline on 0345 605 6055. How far you will get is another matter as they'll probably start by asking security questions. If they do, just interrupt them and say you have received a payment that isn't for you. Good luck.

There may be some instances where they have no way to recover the money, but in this instance the OP can provide the NI number and that should give AA a start point.
