I wouldn't waste the phone call to that crappy NHS direct.. they are totally useless.. I can't understand in what circumstances they would actually be useful.. if someone is ill surely you ring the GP not some twonk on the end of a phome who won't even consider coming to see you and I just think it is a stupid service to waste a bit more money.. shall I get out the soap box???
yeah... but where I am, we have no choice!
I can't actually say anything negative really, our GP you phone in the morning for an appointment that day, but no booking in advance (unless the GP does it during the appointment) also you can speak to a GP on the phone all day. BUT, its 9am to 5pm, Mon to Fri.
so,
We have to ring NHS Direct (Scotland). Good thing is that unlike NHS 24, its a local nurse who you speak too. They arrange the appointment for ADOC (Ayrshire Doctors On Call), before 11pm, you go to the hospital for the app, after 11pm they come to you within 2 hours.
Now, my A&E is 10mins (5 if no other traffic!) away, and so is ADOC BUT, children's A&E is 30mins away!!! Yep, my local A&E only take adults, no children at all no matter how serious it is!
So it's fun when DS2 gets bad (at night of course) and you have to ring NHS direct, go upto ADOC and then get sent to A&E!!
Anyway, with DS2 it's just a case of going through his history and we are sent up, but there is no other way to speak to ADOC without phoning them (the ADOC number is transfered to NHS direct)0 -
I'm now messing on the NHS direct website! LOL!0

Tia.. that is ludicrous!!
I will say though our GP is useless for appointments.. you phone at8am..if you phone after then you don't get an appointment and have to try again the next day!! HOWEVER.. members of ethnic minority groups CAN prebook appointments so they do.. about 25 at a go.. so noone else gets a look in!! It is really unfair.. I haven't been for months and months and months because I simply can't get an appointment and the last few days my arthritis is so bad I can barely walk and still I won't go!! DD3 needs her adenoids checking out as they are huge and causing her to have very noisy breathing, hearing problems and snoring.. wow she is like 3 pigs!! She has also started back with sleep apnoea which is great fun! They refused to fit DD5 in when she had recurrent ear infections and she was a tiny baby screaming in pain.. I ended up demanding a home visit.. and I got one!! now when I ring if they say no appointments I say fine I'll have a home visit, so they say can you not get to the surgery, I say yes but some jumped up (insert any insult I've used them all) receptionist tells me my daughter cannot be seen I will have her seen at home.. usual answer is .. ok be here in 10 minutes... that hasn't failed me yet!
I'd miss out all that palaver though and whizz him the 30 minutes to the hospital.. by the time you have faffed with everyone else you could be there and seen!! On qualifying the doctors sign a duty to care for ALL ill people.. throw that one at them.. it works a treat!
Anyway my tesco shopping has just been delivered by the builder one from The Village People.. I almost burst into singing YMCA when I opened the door!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Honestly, (touch wood) I have not had any problems with NHS Direct (but I do know people from elsewhere that have). They have not yet refused to see DS2 (or DS1 though he has only needed them once). Only problem I had was a Doc last year who said 'I don't give children antibiotics because some parent is over reacting'. One week later he was back there seeing another Doctor who was shocked at this as he had needed them after all. He got sent to A&E and was admitted for a week with pneumonia! Complaint letter sent!
I don't want extra work, I'm sorry! please mistress, have a heart! I did my dishes! *smiles* *does not look at basket of wet clothes and think to hell with that, go see daddy and use TD tomorrow)*
Taking my Christmas magazine upstairs for ME time and to have a serious look at bedroom.
list for tomorrow.
Hoover stairs
Dry washing
Iron some stuff
Master bedroom
Clean out car
now, night night! sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite!

Phew, I was worried for a minute when someone mentioned the bathroom for tomorrow. I guessed it would be the bedroom for Thursday, and was feeling quite smug as my bedroom is still spotless from last week!
Oh Pigpen, I have a question for you, as you seem to be the laundry expert on this thread, what with your constant washing! Have you tried those Colour catcher sheets? I usually end the week with lots of dark, but only 2 white work shirts. I could probably cut my washing down to just one load a week if I could throw the shirts in with the darks, but I'm worried about them going grey, or colours running. Any suggestions??Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!
