It seems like a lot of hassle to open this account - i have opened easy access accounts with Tesco/Paragon and Virgin recently - all easy and quick to set up and fund as well.

    Is that funded with DDs?

That's why I have opened this, and I guess a few others may have had that very same reason .

So I was lucky enough to get the 1.45% rate. They have written to me and I need to provide certified copies of my ID. I mean really!? I could understand if this was a credit card or current account with o/d but a savings account! Can't they use electronic means to check me out nowadays. It's an absolute pain for me to get a certified copy, I'd have to travel into town, probably to a Lloyds bank.
I'm going to try ringing them in the morning and explain that I can't get out to do the certified copies. Or I just wait for the next big rate to come along.

oh just to add...I have nothing from List B..as I do all my banking on line and OH does the utility bills! I think even those are online now too.

Of course they can, and that's what they'll have tried first, as it's far simpler and cheaper for them too - they'll only ask for the physical ID check if there was a problem with the electronic verification, as per http://www.birminghammidshires.co.uk/existing-savers/managing-your-account/general-account-management/#identification-documents:
All financial institutions are required by law to confirm the identity and address of customers when a new account is opened. If we can't verify this information using electronic means, we may have to see some paper based form of identification and proof of address.

I don't have sight of their List B but most banks will issue paper statements on request to satisfy this sort of requirement, or tax-related documents from HMRC are usually on these lists....

Your prerogative but I wouldn't expect it to be a lengthy conversation:

B72: Certified copies of documents are too much hassle.
BM: OK, sorry this account isn't for you, good luck for the future....
