Thanks for the offer. I took a gamble and made an offer of partial refund, even though it wasn't justified, which they accepted and resolved it. I think that's what they were after all along.
I would like to think a lesson learned but I really cannot see how it is possible to avoid being blackmailed when you know that ebay will decide in the buyers favour almost every time!0 -

This is the nature of selling on ebay now - you just have to expect some amount of problems, buyers claiming items don't work when they do to get a free return, buyers who say items have not arrived when they have etc.
Fortunately for me these issues are fairly limited but it probably varies depending on what you sell.
