Other Companies like Staywarm

Hi there folks. I wonder if anyone can help me. I am registered as disabled and receive DLA and Incapacity Benefit. I find it very hard to walk and I am house bound most of the time. I use my gas alot more than I use to, I contacted staywarm as I understood it was avaiable to persons over the age of 60 and/or disabled. When I actually was able to contact them to sign up person under 60 that are disabled can no longer qualify.

Basically what i am trying to find out is, is there any other companies out there like staywarm.

I have heard that there is another company out there but the person that told me, I haven't seen for a year now and have no contact details of hers.

I hope some can help me as I find it difficult to maintain heat and the cost. I currently have a reduced tarriff with EDF of 15% but it is just not enough for someone like me.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Many thanks :T
Scott

    Hi,

Staywarm was taken over by Powergen who locked in existing customers and didn't want to really advance it further as well as making it an over 60's thing only.

If you search on this site there have been loads of threads about Staywarm inc advice from Martin at MSE which may help you understand whether something else may work out cheaper for you.

I guess it depends if you are after it for all the other benefits e.g. cavity wall insululation/loft insulation? If you were classed as "fuel poor" you may be able to get some of those benefits from other Suppliers anyway as part of their iniatitives to get rid of fuel poverty.

If there is a new company out there, the Benefits Agency and CAB should be aware of it if no one gets back to you on here.

I have the impression, Lonodn, that Staywarm is an expensive option anyway.
As Terry says, all providers have a 'fragile user' department, where advice and help are available.
Ebico (Southern Electric) is suitable for low users tho not as competative as once was.
  • Hi I am with ebico and I cannot fault them...I used to be with powergen until I started getting huge bills so went with ebico which are very low bills infact this october I haven't used enough gas to warrant a bill...never heard that one before...I pay £40 electric amonth and £20 gas amonth which is always under what I use anyway...I also have a fleax fur throw on the sofa so if I get cold instead of putting the heating on I tuck this around me...I never use my gas fire but I boost my heating for an hour which usually keeps the house warm for about 3 hours I have a gas cooker so if I am cooking anything it usually keeps the kitchen warm anyway...I also got some warm socks and use these in winter to keep my feet toasty warm...plenty of hot drinks as well...hth's:D:j

My neighbour has said that a cat gives out 11watts of heat, so as long as you don't spend money on feeding it you onto a winner. :-))

Bit like on that episode of Bottom when the gasman visits where they have been stealing gas off next door.

Gasman "it's very warm in here isn't it when you don't use gas?"
    Richie "we make love"
    Gasman "what?"
Richie "er, not together - on our own, ermmm"
