I need to pay back my car insurance

Evening all,

I am looking for advice on a matter regarding my car insurance. About 2 months ago my Ford Mondeo had caught fire and was written off by my insurance company, the company in question was Esure and the whole process took no longer than 2 weeks to complete, they paid off the remaining finance i had on the car and the everything was settled, or at least i thought it was.

About a month ago i receive 2 letters from Close Brothers premium finance demanding the outstanding amount from my car insurance, a little confused a called them. After a 30 minute conversation with them this is basically the situation. I had taken out Insurance with Esure who intern use close brothers as i a finance company who intern pay Esure, Esure then receive the full amount of the insurance quote they had quoted me, i then pay Close brothers a deposit and a monthly installment, Esure have written the car off and closed the car insurance to my knowledge that is the end but because Esure have taken the full amount off Close brothers they are demanding i pay the remainder off what is owed and not Esure.

Do this sound wright ? because to me this sounds like Esure are getting away with not handing the money back, i also cannot find any documents stating that if the insurance company write off a car for whatever reason i have to pay the whole amount back to Close Brothers.

Please Help

Tom

If you have made a claim then you have to pay the full premium standard practice with insurance

You pay your insurance for a year, you were just paying this in monthly instalments, you still need to pay the rest of the premium for the year

So to be clear you've taken insurance on a mothly payment plan (albeit with the loan/the monthly payment via an interest bearing 3rd party) ?

Your contract on taking out insurance will be clear that you're buying an annual policy but paying monthly - on this basis any write-off claim makes the full policy payable (and probably immediately hence Close Bros looking for their money now rather than continuing with instalments)

Have you got the money to pay them or did you think that they'd write off the balance of your 'loan' as well
  • Many thanks for the reply's so quickly,

To answer the question yes i had thought because the insurance company had closed the account they had also taken into consideration the outstanding balance at close brothers. Until receiving the letters i had never heard of Close Brothers, as far as i was aware i paid the insurance company a monthly installment. Close Brothers informed me that i should of received fiance plan and D/D mandate that i should off signed and sent back but have never received any thing from them.

The direct debit form would be from Esure but the name of the payee for the direct debit on your bank statement will be Close Brothers.

Whether you paid to Esure or Close Brothers makes no difference. You would still have to pay the remaining payments.
