Boots 3-for-2

I selected 3 products from the Charles Worthington hair care range, all from the same gondola and the clear 3-for-2 sign. Two were the ultra violet shampoos, and the other was the ultra violet mousse.

At the till, I was asked for full price on everything. I obviously said this was wrong, and the assistant went with me to the display. She was as puzzled as me; her eventual explanation was that the mousse must be a 'luxury item' which isn't covered in the offer.

We went back to the till and I said that I would take the shampoo only in that case. She then rung up the wrong price (£6.99 instead of £5.99) so back we went to the gondola where I pointed out the error. She said a shelf stacker must have put the wrong labels on, but as a gesture of goodwill she would let me have the shampoo at the shelf price instead of the 'correct price'.

No wonder they have such long queues at Boots if this is the standard of salesmanship used.

I had a fantastic experience at Boots with the 3 for 2 offer and 1000 points when you spend £50, the lady was helpful and saved my items so i could go back and find other items to take me up to the total I wanted. So perhaps it depends on the branch you go to?
It was a quiet time when I went so that would have helped

What are these points? I often spend over £50 because I buy the Eucerin range of day and night creams, and I've never been given points.
  • Beenie it's a special promotion. Check your local store for the next one

To be fair, they've probably either took on a load of temp staff or have people doing "trial" shifts which mainly involves pricing and stocking the items during Christmas. Many of them will have little to no experience and mistakes will happen.

Fair play to the cashier for putting the price through at the advertised one. Good customer service right there (they aren't obliged to sell you anything).

Long queues usually means high popularity and/or a festive period.

You have to hand over your Advantage Card with the payment to get the points.

The points offer was only for one day.

  • I was doing a bit of Xmas shopping online.

Loaded up the basket & then put another item in 'for free'. Except it wasn't.

Upon looking further it seems they offer different 3for2 deals so i had a couple items from one range and a couple items from another range.

    Annoying but oh well.
  • My experience with 3 for 2 in Boots was great.
I actually bought four items, from more than one range. Three cost £10 and one cost £6. Instead of giving me the cheapest one free, she gave me a £10 item free.
