halifax insurance letter underpayment added to mortgage

Hi, I am very new to this, but thought Halifax mortgage holders who also have buildings insurance added to direct debit better beware the badly photocopied letter which I have confirmed came from the bank.(no blue ink) I tried to find a way to inform Martin of this but probably someone knows out there I dont want to phone radio 2 . There are loads of issues with this letter that has been sent out regarding my underpayment on last years building insurance of £143 .This has been added to my mortgage and is now being charged interest I have the option to pay in full instead .
I have issues with this letter
1.It looked like a scam
2.They have added money to my mortgage without asking which if I was silly enough not to pay would accrue interest over 14 years wouldnt be £143 then (thats santas money gone)
3.The guy on the phone then informed me that because I pay my buildings insurance with my mortgage payment that my insurance has interest added to it .I have an awful feeling my critical illness cover is included as well.
4When I mentioned Mr Lewis and then the name Martin and confirmed that I could count he sounded worried 200,000 letters according to the bank were sent out that is why it was photcopied.
Anyway if anyone knows how to contact Martin let him know I can deal with mine I think the poor guy thought its Friday and ive just met Martin Lewis's evil little sister (my comment) and this one can count without a calculator.
I have given them until next monday Martin if you find this feel free to email I have a customer care contact number and name .
My last words were I now know its not a scam as this isnt worth £143 you would have put the phone down by now in my best nurses voice:rotfl: .
So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x

I would contact BBC2 Working lunch

Typical sharp practice by the Halifax.
  • I bet the OP would have noticed if she was being overcharged

Get it all the time, people who try their luck and then moan when its picked upon 6 months down the line

Either pay the money you owe them back in a oner or accept their offer

You are party to the contract too and have as much obligation as they do to ensure you fulfil your part which you werent

Thanks for the reply, but ive read what i have written on the original posting just to highlight i pay my bills by direct debit it was the bank that did not take the correct amount.i have no issue paying this amount if i owe it ,what i am really unhappy about is a bank adding unpaid building insurance to my mortgage WITHOUT giving me the option to either pay it in full or by direct debit .ps what does op stand for.

  • But they always have the option to set up separate direct debit so its not paid with mortgage at all

They set up the direct debits yes, but contractually you still should ensure your paying the correct amount

Direct debit payment isnt a legal loophole for you to escape your responsibilities under a contract

You're missing the issue - the op is saying paying the outstanding amount isn't a problem and never has been.

Thanks for the support although Ii think taking advice from someone who actually thinks he is the smartestmanalive would be so wrong ! as stated above Thanks sooler.By the way do you think that any other company would be able to reclaim underpayment on an annual premium if they did not have access to your bank account details?????????????? .
