I'm disappointed with my slow cooker

I looked at the slow cooker quick question thread but this is not a quick question:rolleyes: This is an opportunity for OSers to lure me back to using my slow cooker:p. I hate the thing! I have rarely had any success with it (apart from BBQ pork which was yummy). I "cooked" a chicken in it for 7 hours that needed time in the oven to finish it off, I have tried a lentil soup in it overnight that still had crunchy lentils, I tried a pasta bake in it that ended up with mushy pasta and a bolognese sauce that lost all its flavour. I have stuck it on top of the fridge where it will gather dust unless someone can persuade me it was not a big waste of money. My pressure cooker, on the other hand, now I lurve that.0

here;s one for you
get a silverside joint, melt some butter in it
make up 2 beef stock cubes up with boiling water in 2 cups
put in the silverside on top of the melted butter
pour over the stock cubes
and add salt on top and two/three teaspoons of oxo gravy granules
turn intermittently

Each to their own, if you prefer using a pressure cooker that's probably what you will stick with. I would never cook rice or pasta in mine. I use it for
Stews and broths
Soups
Sauces for with pasta (never with the pasta in)
Curry, chilli etc
Cheap joints like brisketOne day I might be more organised...........

Well I hate mine too:T
It is languishing in the garage. The switch has broken for the second time and the glaze has cracked. It's a Morphy Richards 6.5 litre one.
I think it is only really good for cheaper cuts of meat and maybe beans (but you have to fast boil those first anyway).Even then I think everything tastes the same and doesn't have the concentrated flavour an oven cooked stew does. And you have to make sure the veg are all submerged or they will be crunchy. There's always too much liquid in the finished dish. Definitely no good for pasta -what's the point when pasta cooks in 10 mins?
I concede that if you are out all day then coming home to a ready-cooked meal is a Godsend but even if that were me I'd rather rely on something quick to prepare like eggs or pasta.
I do get a bit bothered that people new to Old Style come on this board and go away with the idea that to 'do it right' they must get a slow cooker and a bread maker (don't get me started on bread-makers:p ). I know loads of people love their slow-cookers and have success with them but really, they are not essential money-saving tools.0
