Odd one here

Bought a new car 15 days ago, a couple of days ago when giving it a hoover out noticed the drivers seat leather was creased and wrinkled looks like it’s starting to split in a line across the seat base

Took it too dealer who said it’s wear and tear that I must have been sitting in the seat wrong and it’s damaged it!!!

Been droving 30 years and never had an issue with a leather seat before

They won’t entertain a manufacturing defect. Surely this is crazy the fault was spotted after 12 days (first tine I gave it clean out).

Waiting for a call back from the manufacturer but surely they can’t pull wear and tear after less than 2 weeks

  • If they don't play ball consult a leather specialist who will advise you if it is a fault or whether or not it's just the leather bedding in and therefore wear and tear.

PS your links don't appear to be working

Is it brand new fresh out of showroom or nearly new......if brand new you've got a faulty/badly fitted seat which should be replaced or repaired
  • Its Fresh out of Showroom, or should I say fresh off the boat, had to wait 5 months for it to be built

    Links should work now

  • I’m looking at your pictures and I’m not sure exactly what you mean. Do you mean there’s a problem with the stitching or the face of the leather - the inverted crease that is visible in both suggestive of leg pressure toward the seat causing crease)?

The crease in the picture doesn't sit right for a 2 week old car.
  • The Creases that look like a fingerprint layout across the seat. ~If it was a year or more old I would agree could be W&T from leg pushin on seat, but 12 days, and never having had a problem with other cars, checked my leg position when driving (Its an EV so left leg is at rest no clutch or other movement)

  • Looks like the seat squab is not properly constructed and is allowing the surface to fold in an unnatural way.

Looks like a modern processed leather - it is real leather but broken down and then reconstituted and surfaced - and should not have any "natural defects" that often get mentioned in get out clauses.

Before spending too much time, I'd wait for the manufacturer callback, I'd put something in writing and ask what they are going to do to resolve it as it is of unsatisfactory quality and you have brought it to their attention immediately. You reject their suggestion that it is due to your sitting posture, you have a normal posture and therefore is they are suggesting it cannot cope with a normal person sitting in a normal way then they are suggesting that there is a design fault. I'd also make a complaint to the manufacturer about the dealer being unreasonable.

As above in post 8, also can you look at a identical model in showroom to see if it has same crease.

Run your hand down the vertical face of the seat in front of the crease - towards the carpet - is the leather taut and is it properly attached to the bottom of the seat frame?

Its not starting to split. Its getting a crease in it the same as you get in your leather shoes where the leather bends inwards as you walk most likely due to it not being fitted quite right. Looking at the photos though it could also be caused by the way you rest your left leg or get out of the car so I could see where the dealer is coming from.
