Rent A Room and Benefits

Hello,
I own my home and it's mortgaged. I'm thinking about taking in a lodger and renting a room in my house.
The question a potential lodger would like to know is can he claim housing benefits on the rental he pays me?
I currently claim WTC and CTC. Is the income from the rental calculated as my household income? I understand that £7500 is tax free - does that mean it's disregarded income for tax credits
Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes he can claim Housing benefit, you'll need to provide him with proof that he's liable for rent, a lodger agreement is the easiest way to do this.
I'm not sure about your tax credits. Hopefully one of the experts will see this and reply.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0
