Section 75 on eBay purchases

Hi,

I bought a new phone on Ebay for £170. Even though I paid by credit card the transaction was processed by PayPal. The entry on my credit card statement shows both PayPal and the merchant's name.

Is this transaction covered by section 75 protection?

If it’s a merchant then yes, single seller then I’d suggest no.

Paypal*(merchants name) is what you want to see and sounds like you do.

I could be wrong but I remember reading previously that for the claim to be successful there needs to be a direct relationship.

Using paypal muddies that somewhat as there is now something in between you and the seller.

If you paid the usual way on Ebay using Paypal then no it's not covered, paying by Paypal and having the CC as the source of funding is just the same as having your bank account as the source.


To have a chance of S75 protection you would have needed to be paying direct to the seller on their site as a direct link to the merchant.
